(I thought I would post my observations maybe you can use them as feedback)
*GP* is right, the server crashed on me too when I tried to enter the A10. Jibbel City gave me a CTD as soon as the map loaded (works fine on singleplayer though). The game runs smoothly for GP and me until it suddenly drops flatout to 1 fps, frozen. It doesn't happen in all maps though (for example Basrah, Wake doesn't have this while Desert Shield does). To note however we don't have any latency issues such as lag or choppiness at all and our ping is lower than in BF1942. However I hope we can do something about these crashes since HJ is a really good mod and it adds a ton of bot support (only thing lacking seems to be a gas mask like in SF).
Vanilla would seem a step back from this I agree and FH2 sems to be instable (maybe we could test it?). There are some good mods out there (AIX2, PR) but from what I heard they have less bot support than HJ.

About the intentional server crashes, is the flooding still going on? Is it being dropped at the router or do some get through? Because that could be another source of the crashes.
The usual way to crash a server includes full clientside CTD for everyone who was on at that time and this hasn't happened, we only get the "There is a problem with your connection" message.

IMHO I think the bot difficulty % should be lowered not the teams evened; when GP and I was on the other day we were getting 1-shotted in our helo cockpits by bullets from infantry (we were getting AImbotted). Basrah is more of a slaughter than a battle, MEC bots drive in our base with the Vodnik car and spawncamp us (no U.S. kit has a RPG of some sort there so its hard to take it out).

Until now I only have seen Jeff, Marcel and GP on the server, but despite ALL the troubles it is a TON of fun, BF2s system allows for some excellent teamwork!
