This morning at about 1:55am PST, the IP for TPU changed again. Presumably this is related to the ongoing changes being made by Shaw. I re-added TPU on GameTracker with the new IP but of course that means all the GameTracker stats and ranking info will start again at zero. I put in a request on the GameTracker forums that they add a feature for changing a server's IP. The in-game server browser should show TPU at its new IP by the time you read this; if not, click the UPDATE button. If you have TPU listed as a Favorite, check the IP to make sure it's correct.

Old IP: 174.6.242.193
New IP: 174.6.225.213

Thank you for the fix. I know you must get so frustrated when that happens. Hopefully this IP will last and I will definitely let you know if I ever see a problem.

Jeff, I can I ask you a question? Ok, I am not a total loss when it comes to computers and networking however there are things I just don't know"I'm still a rookie in the computer world". That being said,why would I have a high ping? Is it because I am out of the states? I saw my ping today and it was pretty high, is this normal? Cause I always have a low one back in cali.

Ping times are a useful measure of Internet 'distance'. When a ping is performed, the sending system (in this case the TPU server), sends a special data packet to the destination system and waits for a reply. The destination system receives the ping and sends a reply. The sending system calculates the ping result as the amount of time it took for the reply to come back, usually in milliseconds (thousandths of a second).

When the two systems are close together, like Mojo is close to TPU, ping times are low. When you're farther away, like you are now, ping times are higher.

Ping times usually correlate with physical distance, because typically the farther the two systems are from each other, the more hops there are between them, and each hop adds to the time it takes to complete the trip. A hop is basically just a network device somewhere in the world that your network traffic has to pass through.

You can see for yourself how many hops are between your system and TPU if you go to a command line. Enter this command:

tracert 174.6.225.213

Each line of the result is one hop in the journey a network packet has to take between the two systems. You can also see how long each hop took in milliseconds.
