Man, I hate to bug someone on the phone like that. It's possible he's had people bugging him about this before so he might not react very well. My feeling is that if he wants people to stop bugging him about BFSM he could either hand the code over to someone else or better yet open-source it. But I really don't want to call him. If you decide to try it, I'll be happy to share the long distance costs with you. All you need to tell him is that BFSM is awesome, we still use it a lot, it has a couple of small issues and you know someone who would love to make on development of BFSM, leaving Kevin credited as the original and main developer.
